Fitting Alcohol Into a Healthy Lifestyle

Some people choose to have a drink with dinner or while out with friends. If you do choose to drink, please keep these facts in mind:

- Of course some people should not drink including those that are pregnant, under the age of 21, people who have trouble controlling the amount they drink, and people with certain health conditions or taking certain medications (talk to your doctor if you are unsure if drinking is safe for you).
- Don't accept drinks from people you don't trust, and never leave your drink unattended.
- Always have a plan to safely get home. Know how to get a ride through a ride-hailing service (such as Uber or Lyft).
- Don't drink on an empty stomach. Alcohol won't enter your bloodstream as quickly if you have food in your stomach.
- Moderate drinking means 2 drinks a day for men and 1 drink a day for women. One drink is equal to 12 ounces of beer or 5 ounces of wine.
